Oracle (Hospitality, Cruise)

Oracle Hospitality Cruise: OHC Gangway, Mustering & iCrew Guest Services

Design

Problem

OHC's Gangway Check-In and Mustering applications ran on Windows Phone, and the redesign had to follow Windows Phone design standards specifically, not a generic mobile pattern, since crew used them on a fixed device and screen size. iCrew: Guest Services carried a parallel but separate challenge: an iOS tablet app that needed to follow Hotels Mobile design standards instead.

Approach

  • Learned Windows Phone design standards from the ground up before redesigning Gangway Check-In and Mustering, since the app was built for that platform specifically.
  • Redesigned Gangway Check-In to speed up guest boarding verification within the fixed Windows Phone screen size.
  • Redesigned Mustering so emergency roll-call information is easier for crew to read and act on quickly.
  • Designed iCrew: Guest Services for iOS tablets, following Hotels Mobile design standards rather than reusing the Windows Phone patterns.

Outcome

Two platform-specific redesigns shipped: Gangway Check-In and Mustering following Windows Phone's design language, and iCrew: Guest Services following Hotels Mobile standards for iOS tablets, each grounded in the exact device crew actually used instead of one generic layout across both.
